How Alimta® Works For Treatment Of Mesothelioma

As a chemotherapy drug, the purpose of Alimta®, also known by its generic name, pemetrexed for injection, is to kill or inhibit the growth of cancer cells. While there are other chemotherapy drugs (Alimta® is commonly used with another chemotherapy drug called cisplatin), Alimta® is unique in that it hinders the activity of three specific enzymes that are essential for the cancer to grow.

Alimta® has proven to be very effective in its ability to slow the growth of cancer cells. Studies have shown that Alimta® can help to relieve many of the most severe mesothelioma symptoms and may help to extend patients’ lives by several months.
