Understanding How Carboplatin Is Given

Patients can receive carboplatin in a number of different ways. It is largely dependent on the type of cancer being treated, the appropriate dose for treating the cancer and other factors. For mesothelioma patients, carboplatin is typically administered via intravenous infusion, commonly referred to as an IV.

Carboplatin treatments for mesothelioma are delivered once every 28 days. Depending on the doctor’s recommendations, carboplatin is often combined with other anticancer and chemotherapy drugs. Depending on the type and combination of drugs used, the patient may need to undergo multiple infusions. Carboplatin treatments are typically performed on an out-patient basis.
