Our Win for Asbestos Victims Can Make a Difference

Asbestos is a naturally-occurring mineral that dates back to 4000 B.C. During the Industrial Revolution, use grew in a variety of products, spurring on mining and manufacturing. Today, asbestos is responsible for serious illnesses, specifically mesothelioma. While consumers were told that the pluses of use were numerous, the companies touting the fibers were aware of its deadly dangers.

What steps should you take after a mesothelioma diagnosis?

Hearing from the doctor that you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma can come as a shock. You feel many emotions all at once, including denial, grief and possibly even anger. And you may feel overwhelmed as your doctor begins explaining all of your options for treatment.

Cryotherapy promising for future mesothelioma

North Carolina residents may be interested to hear that a recent mesothelioma clinical trial reveals that cryotherapy may be a valuable addition to multidisciplinary treatments of pleural mesothelioma. A leading thoracic surgeon believes that the groundbreaking clinical trial is promising for mesothelioma patients. In the past few years, there has been a surge of lawsuits filed against Johnson & Johnson, a well-known and respected brand, for asbestos exposure and related cancers. Plaintiffs claim that due to contaminated baby powder products, they were at heightened risk of contracting deadly cancers.

Pursuing compensation for victims of mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is an aggressive form of cancer that is caused by asbestos exposure. Many victims will live for decades without a disease diagnosis because they do not exhibit mesothelioma symptoms. You may want to test your teen's makeup

The news broke last month that at least one national retailer - whose targeted demographic group is adolescent girls and young women - was found to be selling potentially cancer-causing makeup. This revelation came in the midst of the holiday sales crush, when consumers were flocking to malls and stores for last-minute gifts for friends and loved ones.

Number of annual mesothelioma deaths on the rise

Malignant mesothelioma is a disease often contracted from occupational exposure to asbestos. The latency period for the disease is approximately 20 to 40 years, sometimes as long as 71 years. Therefore, despite increased regulation of asbestos, more North Carolinians are discovering that they have mesothelioma due to their exposure to asbestos decades earlier.

Study confirms diet has impact on mesothelioma survival

North Carolinians would likely be interested in a new mesothelioma study. The study, conducted by Johns Hopkins and Drexel University, reveals that survivors of mesothelioma and other cancers may not be following appropriate dietary guidelines to increase their survivability. Participants in the study -- 53 survivors of breast, prostate and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma -- were asked to track their diets over three days.

Mesothelioma Awareness Day

Mesothelioma Awareness Day, established by Meso Foundation community members, will take place on September 26 for the 13th year in a row. The campaign is designed to bring awareness and funding to mesothelioma, a disease that claims the lives of thousands each year.
